Po návratu z vězení Jake Blues s bratrem Elwoodem navštíví dům, v němž byli kdysi vychováni jeptiškami. Tady stojí před jasným rozhodnutím: na to, aby sehnali 5000 dolarů pro kostel, mají pouhých jedenáct dnů. Jake s bratrem Elwoodem se proto rozhodnou obnovit jejich bývalou bluesovou skupinu. Tím se kolotoč ztřeštěných akcí a honiček s poldy v patách teprve roztáčí. Jejich plány na získání peněz totiž neustále někdo narušuje, dvojice bratrů také na sebe poštve téměř každého… Příběh, který využívá hudební komedie ve spojení s žánrem akčního filmu, proslavily dvě velké honičky aut. V hlavních rolích zaujmou herecké hvězdy Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi a John Candy. Vedle skupiny The Blues Brothers Band tu nalezneme jako hosty známé osobnosti filmového světa (Steven Spielberg, John Lee Hocker, Twiggy, Frank Oz, Steve Lawrence a Paul Reubens).
