Donald Sutherland si v tomto snímku zahrál nacistického špióna, který na rozkaz Führera pronikne do válkou sužované Anglie. V zájmu splnění svého úkolu je ochoten zabít i ty nejnevinnější lidi a dokáže zůstat v Británii až do předvečera spojeneckého vylodění v roce 1944. Když zjistí, že invaze se má odehrát v Normandii, musí se tajný agent urychleně sejít s ponorkou kotvící u jednoho odlehlého ostrova. Jeho misi ale ohrožuje Kate Nelligan, frustrovaná manželka ochrnutého velitele RAF. Přestože se do německého špióna zamilovala, plánuje ho udat poté, co zabije jejího manžela. V závěrečné scéně není nouze o napětí, protože Sutherland svádí souboj s časem, aby se včas setkal s ponorkou a předal informace a také aby zabránil, aby ho odhodlaná Britka prozradila.
